"It's
been unbelievable how many people have come out
to support this cause," said Gary, known for the
high-profile court cases he takes on and the
annual Christmas party he hosts on Osceola
Street in Stuart.
"We're
focused on education and the kids," said Gary,
who donated thousands of dollars worth of his
designer suits and personal artwork for the
rummage sale. "This is our first year doing this
but it won't be the last."
Established in 1994 by Gary and his wife,
Gloria, the foundation has provided scholarships
for scores of students from the Treasure Coast
and around the country, as well as cash
donations to colleges, universities and K-12
schools.
The
Treasure Chest Sale raised about $17,000 by the
end of the day, thanks to the estimated 1,000
patrons who stopped by to pick through the cache
of goodies — a mix of high-end items and
everyday household goods mostly donated by
employees at the law firm.
For
Jensen Beach resident Geri Spinella, a
self-proclaimed garage sale guru, the Gary
Foundation event was one of several stops during
her Saturday shopping trip.
"I
just thought it was such as beautiful day, why
not come out and look around. Everybody loves a
bargain," Spinella said.
